Assorted Stuff (Mostly Writing)

Two weeks (counting finals week) to go until the end of the semester, and I've finally found a good writing space in the library! The way my schedule worked out this time around I'm usually spending at least four week days on campus until six or seven o'clock, which used to mean that I didn't get much writing done on those days--even though the college library has a quiet floor I've always found it really hard to concentrate up there. BUT. There's a reading table behind the stacks that I somehow never noticed until now, where it's even quieter, and just feels...a little more private, I guess? More secluded? Anyway, I've been able to get some work on fic done in between homework and classes without waiting until I'm back home and completely beat to do it; it's been really, really nice. 

My space_swap  fic is finished and submitted. I'm a little nervous for reveals, since the story turned out much angstier than expected. I'll be happy as long as the recipient likes it, though now I'm really feeling the need to write something purely cheerful. Straight-up fluff isn't my strong suit, but I've been wallowing in the angsty side of things a little too much lately. I've also hit the fannish doldrums with Stranger Things--still love reading other people's stories, but when it comes to writing I feel sucked dry. Oh, well.  

Reading: SO MANY books fell to the wayside this semester. I did just finish Leia: Princess of Alderaan (so, SO good, with a really nice focus on her relationship with her parents [I adored Breha especially] and her friendship with Amilyn Holdo [who does come off as a little Luna-Lovegood-ish, while still being her own brand of awesome], a scene where the Organas make themselves look like an absolute dumpster fire of a family in order to distract Tarkin, and a real gut-punch of a closing line.) I'm also within a few chapters of finishing my reread of The Magicians by Lev Grossman, which is getting me nostalgic for the Narnia books...

Awesome that you found a nice little quiet space to get work done. I always loved finding little areas like that at my university. :)

I hear you on not reading enough. I have like four books I'm in the middle of right now and I just can't seem to make time for them. I will have to check out Princess of Alderaan, though! I loved Claudia Gray's take on Leia in Bloodline, and I was thinking of checking that one out at some point. :D

I haven't read Bloodline yet, though I'm planning to now that I've finished POA; it was such a satisfying story. I've also heard that Claudia Gray's other SW novel (I think it's called Lost Stars?) is very good, too, so I'll have to check that one out. Not that I should, since I have so many other books to get back to...

Bloodline is SO GOOD. I hope you can get your hands on a copy. :) I bought Lost Stars a few weeks ago, but I'm in the middle of so many books right now that I haven't cracked the cover yet. I have also heard good things about it, so. :)

I've been looking for some new books to read. Being that you're doing a reread of The Magicians, I'm assuming it's a good one? I've been kind of flailing blind at the local book store. It's like the people who work there have never even read a book.

Oh, yeah, I'd absolutely recommend it! It has a bit of the same feel as the Narnia and Harry Potter books starting out, but it's also very much its own thing, and both very dark and very funny. The entire series was also adapted into a show on Syfy which I wouldn't watch before reading the books--even though it's different in a lot of ways it does spoil most of what happens in the first two books in the first season.
