Banshee!!

I binged through most of the first season last night (seasons 1 & 2 are free to watch on Amazon Prime, and at the rate I'm going I'll probably cave and buy seasons 3 & 4), and what can I say, guys? It's so good. SO GOOD.

Characters I'm Really Into So Far:

-Rebecca Bowman: Sure, come the end of season one it's hard to actually root for her, but she's so, so interesting and I basically want to know everything about her. When did she first meet Kai (I'm assuming he was already out of the community by the time she was born)? When did she start rebelling and why? I've seen enough spoilers to know that she doesn't get any more redeemable as the show goes on (and that things don't end well for her), but sometimes a good descent into darkness storyline just hits the spot, you know?

-Burton: Like with Rebecca, I want to know everything about him, and the distrust between them is pretty predictable but also really interesting. I know--spoilers, again--that things don't end well between them, but I wasn't really expecting them to, and I'm just ready to see how both of them working for Kai plays out in the meantime.

-Brock: He's just trying to do his job, and I love that in the first season he's a fundamentally decent guy but a bit of an uptight jerk at the same time. Hood might be more effective in dealing with all the craziness that springs up (and most of that craziness he brings with him when he comes to town, so), but Brock's a better cop, and it's easy to sympathize with him when all he's really trying to do is make sure everything goes by the book. And then the season 1 finale!! It was just such a wonderful moment for them all, but especially for him, I think.

-Job: Especially how he constantly picks at Sugar and then is the FIRST one to notice when Sugar's shot during the ironworks fight.

-Lucas & Carrie: I didn't expect to fall for their friendship/old romance as much as I did, but it was really convincing and well done and I felt equally bad for both of them--their relationship isn't one-sided at all, and neither of them is either a total monster or an innocent victim, though both of them are capable of doing some pretty monstrous things. And both of them end up pretty much devoted to the kids! (All Hood's moments with Deva, and him comforting Max during the hostage exchange, were great; Carrie doing her best to protect them as things spiral farther and farther out of control just about broke me.)

- Kai Proctor: I have zero sympathy for the guy, but I can't say watching him isn't a whole lot of fun.

Oh, and also: I can't help thinking of how perfect a Banshee-style Punisher AU would be? Both shows even have the "I'm already dead" line, and Frank impersonating a cop isn't the most unbelievable scenario ever. I can actually picture Sarah having a Carrie-esque backstory (which would explain some of the kinda-maybe sexual tension she has with Frank) and David as the hacker, obviously (not that he could replace Job; nobody can). Leo's way too cautious and responsible to get into Deva-style shenanigans, but Amy's just reckless enough that she might. Curt would obviously run the bar and help Frank with his impersonation, and Karen does share some similarities with Siobhan. It all fits together surprisingly perfectly.

ETA: I've already poked around a bit, and there's barely any fic for this show, let alone fic focused on the characters I'd love to find fic focused on. Which...how did this show end up with such a tiny fandom?! It really is so, so good.

Banshee!! I really like it; it's such a fun, totally bonkers show. xD There is next to no fandom for it, though, which is so weird. It's got so much fic potential. I've written a couple of post-canon show tags (totally spoilery, obviously, and mainly focused on a character you haven't met yet) but there just isn't really much of anything out there for it.

I know! I would obviously be delighted if you ended up writing fic; this show desperately needs more fic. I think I've found maybe one or two that I liked. There is just NOTHING for it. And it's weird, because it has interesting characters and that found-family thing that fandom likes. I think it's mostly an issue of fandom just never really discovering it. The only reason why I'd even heard of it is because there's an actor in it that I know from something else and was looking up other shows he'd been in.

... oh btw, have you discovered the "Banshee Origins" webisodes yet? :D They're all on Youtube, and each season has a few, little mini-episodes a couple minutes long that spotlight different characters and give you a look at pieces of their histories that the show doesn't get into.
