Writerly Things

(Quick note before I start blabbing about myself: through the semester I'll try to keep up with everybody else's entries and comment as much as I can, but it's likely going to get spotty, especially around midterms and finals.)
Almost halfway through another week. I've had to shelve the beginning of another potential fic project because I just don't have the time to launch into many more big, involved stories. This one was going to be a sort of romcommy no-powers AU for The Defenders, specifically focused on Matt and Jess and the whole couple-must-move-in-together-to-raise-a-baby trope, which is the best romcom trope in the history of romcoms. Needless to say, I'm sad to see it go, but I also wasn't as invested in this AU as I am in others. For now it seemed like the best decision. I'm already missing summer and the gobs of free time I had. I don't hate writing for a grade, but it's not the same.
Okay, enough whining. Here's what's going on with the two AUs I am still working on, in case anyone's interested:
One more chapter to finish before I'm officially done with "I Don't Wanna Know Your Name". This is the third multi-chapter fic I've written; I still have no idea what I'm doing. It's probably overwritten in places, but I'm still proud of how this one's turned out so far. I just hope I can pull all the threads together in a satisfactory ending. Then it's on to canon territory, I think. The next fic in the series will probably cover GOTG Vol. 1, and might be at least partly from Gamora's point of view. I love Pete to death but after five fics I'm getting a little too comfortable in her head. Someone else's perspective on her would be a lot of fun.
I already posted a snippet of this on my Tumblr, and I'm super, super excited to finish up the first installment. Basically I'm looking to write a romance that's complicated and dark while also being SUPER tropey and full of a bunch of fun fantasy twists and turns. Frank/Karen is my favorite pairing of ever, so I'm giving it a shot even though I don't have much experience writing shippier stuff.
Bonus!
I'm not very comfortable talking about this one yet, except to say that so far the plot's moved in the direction I want it to go, which is such an unexpected feeling that I'm a little suspicious of it. Like, something's BOUND to go wrong here. So far, though, it hasn't. That's not to say that this thing is perfect, but I'm enjoying working through the mess. I'm also learning to accept a lot of things, like the fact that I'll never be the world's fastest writer and that this first draft is turning out overlong and exploratory...and that's okay. I like where it's going, even if I'm taking my time getting there.
