I made some progress through my pile of abandoned books by finally finishing IT yesterday. It's the first Stephen King book, aside from a couple of short stories and On Writing, that I tried reading, and even though I loved every single minute of it I bought this book back in November. It's a relief to have it checked off the list. To celebrate, I'm starting another probably-months-long reading project with The Stand. Only around sixteen chapters in, but I love it already!

Now why did I read that as King Stephen?

Been reading too much early mediaeval history again I suspect! :o)

Woo! I don't think I'd have the stamina to get through IT, so kudos for you! I've only read one Stephen King book (Carrie) but I loved it. I should really check out more of his stuff.

I need to read Carrie! Finishing IT up did take a bit of doing, but it is one of those books that absolutely needs that many pages to get where it's going--the main characters are all so wonderful, and the ending just blew me away.

It sounds like you're taking on some of his most lengthy novels. I've read both, and enjoyed them, although it seems like ages ago, as I read them when they were first published. I also really enjoyed Insomnia, should you feel like adding one more to your list.

Oh, Insomnia does look good! And it's also set in Derry?! I'll have to check it out!

Yeah, from what I've heard they're two of the longest, though I guess Stephen King isn't usually known for writing novellas. :)

It's been years since I read it, but I believe it was in Derry, the same as with many of his other books. I went through a phase of reading his novels, one after another - probably about 20 of them, and always enjoyed the occasional reference that would pop up in one story, of events from that took place in that town from other another.

I love little Easter egg references like that! (S.E. Hinton is another author who does a lot of them, and it always made me so happy to come across one in her stories.)
